ACCESSORIES

A giftie for Minnow, who requested R/S, in Hogsmeade, with the line "I thought you looked better in the pink one."

"I'm not going to stand in the middle of Hogsmeade trying on girls' scarves, Padfoot."

Sirius stood behind the rack of scarves, plucking at a particularly frilly one. "Here, try this one. The turquoise might work well with your hair in the sunlight." Before Remus could protest, Sirius had stepped around the rack and begun wrapping the thin material around his boyfriend's neck.

Remus scrambled to get it off. "You know, trying on women's accessories is not a good way to keep up the impression that one is straight." He pulled the fabric away, holding it gingerly between his thumb and forefinger, and murmured, "Though this color isn't exactly going to give the impression that you're gay, either. You have horrid taste, Sirius."

"I suppose it doesn't really matter what colors we get," said Sirius, still pawing through the rainbow of silk and ignoring Remus's remarks. "I don't exactly plan to having you wearing them in public . . ."

Sucking in a gasp, Remus could feel blood rush to his face. Normally he hated blushing, but in this case he knew that it was only his embarrassed flush that was preventing a much less socially-acceptable reaction to Sirius's innuendo.

"So that's a no on the turquoise?"

"That's a no on all of them, you poncey git."

Sirius looked up and dropped a sly wink. "Takes one to know one, Moony." He focused again on the merchandise. "I thought you looked better in the pink one. Here, try it again?"

This time Remus took a step back. "Stop it!" he hissed. "Look, if you insist on buying one for the fulfillment of your perverted mind, just grab any one, buy it, and let's get back to Wormtail and Prongs before they come looking for us!"

This idea stopped Sirius short. While it was one thing for other students who weren't close to them to pass around rumors and whisper behind their backs, it was quite another for their two best mates to actually know. For now, it was their special secret, and they liked it that way.

"Fine." Sirius grabbed the pink and the turquoise scarves and made his way to the saleswitch.

Remus considered trying to talk him down to one, but a Padfoot-like voice in the corner of his mind reminded him that he had two wrists. "Oh God," he whispered, almost whimpered. He walked to join Sirius, digging coins from his pockets. "Here, I should pay for one."

The witch took their money with a smile. "Presents for your girlfriends? Excellent choices, lads." She wrapped the scarves carefully and put them in a bag, giving them a bright smile as she handed it to Sirius.

"Thanks, I hope they like 'em." The boys walked away, heading in the general direction of Zonkos.

When they were far enough from the stand, Sirius pulled the scarves from the bag and tucked them instead into his pocket. "Our secret. Classes will be done, soon . . . and I'm going to find that flat for myself." He leaned in close, lips almost brushing Remus's ear. "And these will be the highlight of the decorations."

End.
